Acupuncture works for pain and stress relief

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is part of the ancient practice of Traditional Chinese medicine. Traditional Chinese medicine practitioners believe the human body has more than 2,000 acupuncture points connected by pathways or meridians. These pathways create an energy flow (Qi, pronounced "chee") through the body that is responsible for overall health. Disruption of the energy flow can cause disease. By applying acupuncture to certain specific points, it is thought to improve the flow of Qi, thereby improving health.

Acupuncture is done using hair-thin needles. Most people report feeling minimal pain as the needle is inserted. The needle is inserted to a point that produces a sensation of pressure or ache. Needles may be heated during the treatment, or mild electric current may be applied to them. Studies have shown that acupuncture is effective for various conditions, such as chronic pain, headache and migraine, irritable bowel syndrome, anxiety, stroke, chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting, and more.

Counselling

Life is a journey full of ups and downs, and we as humans all try to find the meaning and values of life; all need to be seen, heard, and loved.

Counselling focuses on how people function both personally and in their relationships at all ages. It addresses the emotional, social, work, school, and physical health concerns people may have at different stages in their lives, improving their sense of well‐being, alleviating feelings of distress and anxiety, and promoting psychological flexibility.

The problems addressed by counselors are from developmental, social, and cultural perspectives. They include, but are not limited to:

  • School and career/work adjustment concerns
  • Mental disorders.
  • Relationship issues‐including marital and family difficulties.
  • Emotion management and coping with negative life events.
  • Dealing with and adjusting to physical disabilities, disease, or injury.
  • Life transitions and personal/social adjustment.
  • The development of one’s identity.

Cupping therapy

Cupping

Cupping is a form of traditional Chinese medicine, and people have practiced cupping therapy for thousands of years.

Cupping is to promote healing and has been used extensively for sore muscles. Cupping has also been used for back and neck pain, skin diseases such as acne and hives, migraines, knee arthritis, etc.

There are different ways to perform cupping. The steps vary slightly depending on the chosen method. The therapist will leave the cups in place for several minutes. Some treatments involve briefly moving the cups to stretch and massage the area. Depending on the treatment, your provider may place multiple cups on your skin.

The suction force from cupping breaks open tiny blood vessels under the skin. You will have round bruise-like marks that fade in a week or two.
